Brief
World-renowned shoe & sandal company Birkenstock had a problem. Their products were being imitated and sold as authentic. When customers were bringing their purchases in for warranty retailers had no choice but to turn them away. To combat this, corporate had the idea of creating a sign to provide their authorized retailers to eliminate any doubt that the products at that location were authentic Birkenstock.

Inspiration 1
Birkenstock came to us in need of this sign to gift to their Authorized Retail partners but didn’t have a solid design in mind so they asked us to help in the process. We drew our inspiration from an existing sign prototype (left) and a new display (right) they had in stores to keep the project on brand.
Concept
With this inspiration, we put together a concept that best suited the product while also staying on brand with the store’s new image. The result was a combination of raw steel, white oak, and laser-etched graphics; all topped off with a base using the actual Birkenstock out-sole material!
As a proof of concept, we put together a rendering to present to the client.
Creation 1
When the client saw the rendering they were ecstatic and wanted to see a prototype immediately. We (TGS Elevate) reached out to one of our manufacturing partners and we were able to complete a prototype in about 2 weeks.
The resulting product looked even better than we, and the client, anticipated.
Production
With a few minor structural tweaks, the client was ready to commit to a production run of the signs to distribute to Birkenstock Authorized Retailers.
Construction
To help with assembly during mass production we created jigs to make sure all components were aligned and consistent.
Packaging 1
Because this was a gift from Birkenstock to their Authorized Retailers, they wanted a nice, thoughtful packaging solution. We came up with a semi-custom solution for them utilizing a standard shipping carton combined with a custom cut corrugate insert to lift and level the sign in the carton. We topped this off with some craft paper padding and a signed letter from corporate. All items being eco-friendly to adhere to the companies evergreen initiatives.
